Should I take weight loss medications like Ozempic and Wegovy? (video for you)

Hello from your friendly weight-inclusive dietitian team!

We've hit the ground running here at Happy Valley Nutrition (collaborations, classes and an amazing new dietitian to be announced very soon!)

What we've got for you today is a topic ripped from the headlines.

You've probably heard of new weight loss medications called Ozempic or Wegovy that are being hailed as incredible weight loss medications. Perhaps your doctor told you about them. Perhaps you asked.

In our practice we've been getting a lot of questions about them as well:

"Are they safe?"

"Are they the miracle "cure to ob*sity" that I was told?"*

"I heard the side effects were awful- is that true?"

"What happens if I stop taking them?"

"I feel really f'ing upset that my doctor recommended this to me."

"I'm worried that you will judge me if I say I am interested in this."

We hear you. We do. And so we've asked our Certified Diabetes Educator RD Heidi to give us the low down on these drugs which, if you didn't know, are used in the care and management of diabetes. We believed that informed consent is the KEY because let's face it--these drugs are being marketed to make MONEY and you are absolutely NOT getting the full story.

Check out the video that Heidi and I made for you covering it ALL. You'll be an expert by the time you're done watching

Feel free to reach out if you have ANY other questions for me or Heidi and we will answer them.

We will see you soon with more awesome stuff.

*A PS on why we use "Ob*sity": We at Happy Valley Nutrition, along with many other weight-inclusive, fat-positive professionals do not use the word "obesity" or "overweight" in our language, since they were created to pathologize higher weight bodies, and let's be honest- a person's size tells us nothing about their health. Nothing. Oh, and those words, along with the BMI, are incredibly racist.
